What is a Neurologist?
A neurologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the nervous system. The nervous system is comprised of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. A neurosurgeon specializes in surgery on the brain and other parts of the nervous system.
Some problems that a neurologist will treat include strokes, seizures (epilepsy), headaches, dementia (Alzheimer’s disease), multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and various types of pain. A neurologist may serve as a consultant to other physicians or provide care to patients with chronic and long-term neurological disorders.
